What does seem to be overlooked is that this Liverpool "second stream" were also actually playing to win a place in the first 11 and show the incumbents "how to do it" for the rest of the season.

Therefore they would all have put in that extra bit of effort as a stake to their claim. In my mind that makes winning the game that little bit better than had we been playing their "normal" line-up.

We won games earlier in the season when the oppose had most of the possession. We've also lost games we've been the more dominant side. In the end, no matter how you play, the result is all that matters, no matter how many people say otherwise.

That's exactly the answer. We've always been a 'liked' club in the main, because we've been an easy fucking touch, and no real threat to anyone. That's changing, and others don't like it.

Anybody else concerned about Valencia's tendency to throw himself on the floor at the merest hint of a challenge? Did this affect his chances of getting the penalty?

Yes I checked the stats and it looks even but they don't tell the full story. They missed 3 or 4 very good chances, it was poor finishing that cost them the game. Agree it was a great cup tie though and a superb finale, I was dreading penalties.

Possibly, the away game we were flying and that second half we were as good as I've seen us this season, and Liverpool were out of sorts with Rodgers still there. Home game in the league we were again good, direct without controling the game but created and took our chances.

But the cup games have come in a spell where we haven't been playing great, arguably not since Man City game. Liverpool cut through our team with ease last night and played some good stuff at times.

Tomshardware - Someone posted earlier that we had 49% possession. 19 shots to their 20. 7 of ours on target to 6 of theirs. Both teams hit the post. Not sure how accurate that is but it seems to fit the game as I remember it.

Tomshardware, I agree wth you and would further add that over those two cup games what was largely a Liverpool second string showed up the players that Klopp has used as first choice.

I thought we were outplayed for a lot of the game by a mostly reserve Liverpool side who created more than enough chances to win the game. Benteke must have missed 3 or 4 really easy chances and that other played screwed his shot wide when the goal was gaping.

We had players who played well but as a team I don't think we played anywhere near as good as we have done in some games this season.

What Grumps said Mac... just nice having a manager taking the greatest cup competition in the world seriously ... he was almost in tears last night after the final whistle... that's what it means to him... he gets it and us... the other imposter we had for the previous 4 years did not have a clue... and we even had fans on here agreeing with him that the league takes all priority... does it fuck..
